Notes

This is my play on a Black Manhattan. I split the more bitter Averna with the lighter Montenegro, which has lovely flavours of rose petals and orange. To maintain the more bitter flavour of the Black Manhattan, I added in a little Fernet which also adds in a nice minty flavour. As in the original, Angostura Bitters round out the drink. The final ingredient is the Vanilla Rye Bitters which are optional, but really take the drink to the next level. Although this cocktail is incredible as is, the Vanilla really brings everything together and takes the drink to another level. For those who don't have these bitters, which will be about 99% of you, I would suggest using your most vanilla forward rye or add a couple drops of something on your shelf with a nice vanilla flavour.
